Li Ao, though generally acknowledged as a forerunner of Neo-Conficianism,is still regarded as having been influenced by Buddhism. The historicalreasons for Li Ao's reputation are examined, prior to a close considerationof "Fu-hsing shu", the work that most influenced early Neo-confucianism.
