"The Book of Margery Kempe" has generally been judged to beover-emotional and its structure regarded as at worst non-existent, at bestnaive. This work argues instead that The Book unfolds a creative experienceof memory as spiritual progress, and explores Margery's meditationalexperience in the context of visual and verbal iconography.
