内容
The question of how to understand culture and society has engaged passionate interest across the social sciences and humanities in recent decades. From Sociology to Cultural Studies brings together exciting new empirical work on topics from jazz, architecture, grassroots social movements, inner–city schools, and the television viewing culture to international relations and black women's sexuality – as well as more programmatic theoretical and methodological reflections – to address this issue. Placing sociologists of culture such as Michael Schudson, Michele Lamont, Steven Seidman, Judith Stacey, and Herman Gray in conversation with scholars from anthropology, history, literary studies and "cultural studies" more broadly defined, the volume suggest ways that cultural analysis can become more socially grounded, while also challenging sociology to learn from analytic perspectives developed outside the discipline.
