Covering linguistic research on empty categories, this work presents theresult of a syntactic and focus-theoretical investigation of ellipsis ingenerative grammar. Useful for scholars of grammar and cognitive scientists,it aims to explain on the basis of linguistic theorizing of how it ispossible that we understand more than we actually hear.
