When early Christians began to study the Bible, and to write their ownhistory and that of the Jews, they used scholarly methods invented by thelibrarians and literary critics of Hellenistic Alexandria. But Origen andEusebius, scholars of late Roman Caesarea, produced books in which parallelcolumns made possible critical comparisons.
