Yanihara Tadao was a Christian and pacifist who occupied the Chair ofColonial Policy at Tokyo Imperial University from 1923-1937. This study ofhis commentary offers a critical analysis of Japanese colonial policy whichis placed within the historical conditions prevailing in 1920s and 30s Japan.
