Translation and Translation Studies in the Japanese Context(Continuum Advances in Translation) H 240 p. 12
内容
Japan is often thought of as having a 'culture of translation'. Oral and written translation in Japan has played a vital cultural role and has led to a body of research and thinking that can contribute new perspectives to the international field of translation studies. By looking at the history of translation in Japan and its integration into aspects of its society from pre-Meiji times to the modern day, the book offers in an insight into translation practices rooted in an entirely different context to European and American nations. The chapters examine the role of community interpreting in Japan, as well as the translation of foreign literature into that of Japanese and Japanese literature and video games outside of Japan. The notion of "interlanguage" is used to help position the history of Japanese translation, with the basic paradigm of linear transference from source language to native target language being superceded.
