内容

This edited book focuses on the organization and meaning of craft work in contemporary society. It considers how craft is related to place and the construction of a meaningful relationship with objects of consumption and explores the relationship to raw materials, the role of technology in craft work organizations, the relationship between the body, the crafted object and the mind, and the importance of skill, knowledge and learning in the making process. It raises questions about the role of craft in facing challenges of sustainability in an era of 'peak stuff' by challenging the logic of global production and consumption based on obsolescence and disposability. The Organization of Craft Work encompasses international analyses of craft work in a diverse range of sectors, including brewing, food production, ceramics, textiles, shoe and bicycle making, and drawing on research that encompasses small scale cottage-industries alongside factory-scale craft work organizations that have become globally recognized brands. It develops a diverse range of theoretical perspectives for understanding craft work will be of interest both to students at an advanced level, academics and reflective practitioners in business and management disciplines. It will be of interest to researchers, academics, practitioners, and students in the fields of organization studies, marketing and consumer behaviour, business ethics, entrepreneurship, sociology of work, human resource management and industrial relations. In addition, the book will also be of potential interest practitioners and organizations with an interest in promoting and maintaining interest in craft work.
