内容
The global space sector has always been regarded as a cutting-edge field, futuristic and at the forefront of innovation. In recent years, the sector has undergone massive change, giving rise to a high-technology niche worth USD 330 billion in revenues worldwide (Space Foundation, 2015). That process encompassing a greater and more diverse set of actors has been described as the "democratization of Space."
With the ongoing transformation of the space sector into the Business of Space, this book offers insight into the changing dynamics of the sector as it develops from a predominately government and military led phenomenon to one comprising a more mixed set of public and private sector players. As attention is increasingly been given to the importance of the humanization of space and the establishment of space colonies, this book provides a timely exposition on the past and present state of the space sector and its likely evolution into the future.
Tracing its origins from the middle of the 20th century as a government and military led domain, the book examines the ongoing evolution of the space sector and its rapid commercialization across a wide number of activities. The authors offer lessons from the emerging commercial space actors that have applicability to other sectors and their managers. They conclude with a discussion around likely scenarios for the space sector and an evaluation of its future trajectories.
