Argues that gothic fiction has helped shape thinking about sexual mattersand jump-start the age of sexology. This work examines the ways in whichgothic fiction centers on loss as the foreclosure of homoerotic possibilityand the relationship between transgressive sexual behaviors and a range ofreligious behaviors understood as "Catholic".
