It was in 1865 when Fr. Petitjean dramatically met crypto-Christians at Oura Cathedral in Nagasaki. Fr. Petitjean (Bernald Thadee Petitjean 1829-84) arrived in Japan in 1860 to be engaged in missionary work.
About 60 titles of Kirisitan Works were published in Yokohama or Nagasaki by Fr. Petitjean from 1868 to 1883. These works were published in confidence since the Edo Shogunate had banned Christianity. In 1873, the Ban on Christianity were abolished. This collection contains 23 titles published from 1865 to 1873.
For the 150th anniversary of "Finding crypto-Christians" in 2015, Maruzen-Yushodo reproduced this very valuable collection.
