This reprint collection consists of one hundred and eighteen colored woodblock prints done by Utagawa Hiroshige III (1842-1894), which first appeared at the First National Industrial Fair of 1877. Each print depicts either a famous product associated with a particular region or the process by which it is made, as well as the people involved in the trade.
Collectively, the prints give an insightful overview of the various economic activities that buttressed the Japanese society of the early Meiji era, while the intricate details provide a window into people's changing lifestyles amidst the significant cultural shift that took place during the Meiji Restoration. As such, this reprint collection is a valuable source for researchers in the fields of modern Japanese history, art history, industrial history and regional history. (The prints included in this collection are regionally organized in accordance with the main roads originating from Kyoto.)
