A monthly journal of art Mizue was founded in 1905. The founder Tojiro Oshita is a watercolor artist and he had contributed to the spread of the watercolor painting art in Japan.
The main purpose of publishing this title was to promote the study of art especially watercolor painting art. However, the journal also contained many articles on western art as well as Japanese art with plentiful illustrations introducing many artists of those days. Though it ceased publishing in 1922, Mizue is an indispensable and basic material to study modern Japanese art history.
This microfilm edition contains invaluable volumes from the Meiji era to the beginning of the Showa era (1905-1946), which are difficult to obtain.
