The Atelier was issued in 1924 by Yoshio Kitahara who was the younger brother of Hakushu Kitahara, and was coordinated by Kanae Yamamoto who was a famous oil painter. It was a modern and popular magazine. As the center of artistic journalism in the pre-war period, it consisted of original criticism of young and energetic artists, methodological articles for artistic education and features of exhibitions. Though its title was changed to Seikatsu Bijutsu because of the foreign language control during the war, it was reissued and still continues now. A complete original set does not exist but our microfilm edition includes all of the issues except one extra number (special supplement).
