Despite being much sought after by researchers as a rich source of information on Japanese economic and industrial history, because company histories are not produced for sale, there are no institutions with concentrated holdings of these documents. Thus there has been strong demand from the research community for this project. In response, now on microfilm we are pleased to offer around 2000 company histories published by approximately 1000 large and medium-sized firms, focusing on companies listed on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and major companies of a corresponding size, and dispersed among the holdings of dozens of institutions nationwide. The companies and histories were selected by an editorial team consisting of nine researchers led by authorities in the field Tsunehiko Yui and Yoshimitsu Imuta. An essential collection for those wishing to trace the history of Japanese industry and management since the Meiji era.
