A primary source released into the public domain here for the first time that details the agendas and activities of the JNR Reconstruction Supervision Committee, the first meeting of which was held in June 1983 under the Law on Temporary Measures concerning the Restructuring of Japanese National Railways. These records cover a total of five years and 159 meetings of the committee, plus the minutes of various discussions, the minutes of one-day administrative reform councils held around the country, questions and answers, and the vast quantity of material that was distributed at all these gatherings. The originals are from the committee minutes held in the National Archives, and documents distributed by the committee held by the Library of Economics, University of Tokyo. The release of such invaluable documents as records clearly has significant implications for Japan's future. An extraordinarily valuable, primary source not only of use, needless to say, in transport policy and rail history, but also fields such as political science, political history, and the history of the labor movement.
