Minoru Kusuda (1924-2003) served as chief secretary to Prime Minister Eisaku Sato and continued to support his administration.
This second phase of the project begins with the Kishi and Ikeda administrations, which preceded the appointment of Kusuda as chief secretary, and continues with various documents from the Sato administration, which are addenda to the first phase of the project.
The second phase consists of a vast amount of previously unpublished materials from the Fukuda administration, the Shintaro Abe administration, and the Takeshita administration after the resignation of Sato.
The collection extends back to the 2000s.
It complements, of course, the Kusuda Collection: Sato Eisaku Papers, published in 2016 and fill in the gaps in the archives of Japanese politics from the late 1970s to the early 1990s.
Part I: The Kishi and Ikeda Administrations, the Sato Administration, and the Fukuda Administration
This section is a collection of primary documents related to the Kishi and Ikeda administrations, which I obtained while working as a reporter for the Sankei Shimbun's Political Affairs Department.
The documents include those related to the Kishi and Ikeda administrations when he was a reporter for the Sankei Shimbun's Political Department, the documents from the Sato administration including those related to the reversion of Okinawa, and the documents from the Fukuda administration when he served as the brain behind the realization of the Fukuda administration.
Fukuda-related materials, including the "F-Ope (Fukuda Operation)," in which he acted as the brain for the Fukuda administration and was involved in policy planning after the administration came to power.
The collection contains documents related to Fukuda.
The book also includes materials that were inserted in the original "Kusuda Minoru Diary" published in 2001 by Chuokoron Shinsha.
It is also essential for a more precise reading of the same diary. The book also contains a wealth of material related to Prime Minister Fukuda's foreign trips.
Part II: Shintaro Abe, Takeshita Administration, International and Intellectual Exchanges, Diaries and Memos
Kusuda also operated "Operation A-Ope (Abe Operation)" to bring about the Shintaro Abe administration.
This collection contains a wealth of materials related to Shintaro Abe, including materials from various study groups such as the New Growth Study Group, which were held under A-Ope.
Kusuda also held a key position at the Japan Foundation for many years and was deeply involved in Japan's international exchange policy.
The collection contains a wealth of materials in this field, including those related to the "International Cooperation Initiative" (Takeshita Initiative) under the Takeshita administration, forming an extremely valuable collection of materials.
The collection is an extremely valuable collection of materials in the same field.
The collection also includes Kusuda's diaries and memos from 1973 onward.
