Contents
In addition to the contents of the microfilm and DVD editions, newly recorded materials cover the entire life of Shinpei Goto from his days at the Sanitation Bureau to his later years.
Shinpei Goto (1857-1929) was a bureaucrat and politician active from the Meiji era to the early Showa era. The vast amount of original documents left by Goto have already been published as the microfilm edition of the "Goto Shinpei Papers" and the DVD edition of the "Collection of Letters" and have been used in many studies.
This time, in addition to the contents of the microfilm and DVD editions, we are publishing an online version that comprehensively includes unrecorded materials and newly donated materials in the Goto Shinpei Memorial Museum collection, as well as related materials in the Municipal Library collection. In addition to refining the existing catalog, reference information to a voluminous biography that makes full use of the "Goto Shinpei Papers" is also included to guide the reader to the original source materials.
Simpei Goto was active in Japan's colonial administration, serving as Commissioner for Civil Affairs of Taiwan and the first president of the Manchurian Railway Company, and held such important positions as Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mayor of Tokyo, and President of the Imperial Capital Reconstruction Agency. This online edition will enable further three-dimensional research on Goto, who left a significant mark on modern and contemporary history.
