A database for academic institutions to search and browse all volumes of Edogawa Rampo's handmade "Harimaze Nenpu" in a cross-sectional manner.
The " Harimaze Nenpu " is a scrapbook containing a vast number of materials collected, organized, and preserved by Edogawa Rampo. The database contains more than 2,600 original documents, including Rampo's own notes, diaries, manuscripts, letters from writers and publishers, movie and theater pamphlets, press sheets, and clippings from domestic and foreign newspapers and magazines, all of which are attached to the pages with Rampo's comments.
The database will include the entire period from 1894 to 1964 (9 volumes), with a detailed catalog. The postwar and wartime portions, which are being fully disclosed for the first time, include various advertising materials for publications, films, plays, television, radio, and other media in which Rampo was involved, as well as notes and leaflets related to domestic and international translations. There are also numerous original documents related to the Japan Literary Society, the Taiseiyokusankai, Tonari Gumi, etc., which are extremely valuable as a record of a writer who lived through the war years.
The database also allows searches of individual pasted materials, making it useful not only for the history of modern literature, film and video, media, and publishing culture, but also for the study of popular culture in general.
The database is included in the J-DAC "Handwritten Materials by Japanese Modern Literary Writers" and can be cross-searched with the autographs of other modern literature writers.
