A total of three volumes of materials previously owned by Kazuo Okochi and Mikio Sumiya,
who served as the presidents of the Social Security System Council, will be published.
It will include more than 4,200 original documents related to the social security system spanning half a century, from the 1940s to the 1990s.
Focusing on materials from the Social Security System Council,
which is said to have determined Japan's postwar social security system,
it also includes a wide range of materials, surveys, statistics, etc.
from related councils and study groups.
Social security has developed in close connection with Japan's population, economic situation, and social life,
from the post-war period of confusion to the realization of universal health insurance and universal pensions,
responses to the aging population, and changes in the working environment as women entered the workforce.
A collection of source materials that enable empirical research on systems. It is a useful resource in a variety of fields,
including not only social security and social welfare, but also gender, economic disparity, and labor issues.
