The North China Railway Company was established in China in 1939 during the Sino-Japanese War as a de facto subsidiary of the South Manchuria Railway Company (Mantetsu).
This collection comprises wartime materials from the corporation and postwar materials from repatriation support organizations.
It is a valuable resource not only for railway and transportation history, but also for colonial studies and repatriation research, and is a useful resource for modern and contemporary history research in general.
Part I: Wartime Materials
This section covers materials from the Manchuria Railway North Branch Office before the founding of North China Transportation to the end of the war.
In addition to materials related to railways, transportation, coal and iron production during the war, it also contains materials related to the Outline of the North China, Mongolia, Jiangxi National Land Plan, the East Asia Development Board and the Ministry of Greater East Asia.
Part II: Materials of the Continental Railway Workers Support Association and the China-Japan Mutual Aid Association
This section primarily contains the materials from the "Continental Railway Workers Support Association” established after the war with the aim of providing support and rehabilitation to employees and their family members of former Manchuria Railway, North China Transportation, Central China Railway, and Korea Railway, and the materials from the "China-Japan Mutual Aid Association" founded with former employees of North China Transportation Company as members.
It also contains management-related materials such as business reports, board of trustees and directors' records, and financial documents, as well as correspondence with various government agencies, various business documents, and newsletters.
