This is a database that allows for cross-referenced access to records on psychotherapy in Japan left by Kokyo Nakamura, a novelist who studied under Sōseki Natsume and later became a psychiatrist.

Kokyō Nakamura (1881–1952) founded the Japanese Society of Psychiatry in 1917 and launched its journal, 『変態心理』(Abnormal Psychology)significantly influencing Japanese social psychology and psychiatry.

This database includes a vast collection of original materials left behind by Kokyo Nakamura, including the elusive magazine 『黎明』(Dawn) which was published at the Nakamura Kokyo Sanatorium from the pre-war to post-war period, and 『療養日誌』(Treatment Diaries) documenting treatment practices. These are first-rate newly discovered historical materials spanning literature, psychology, psychiatry, and social history.

The magazine 『黎明』was first published in January 1934 at the Nakamura Kokyō Sanatorium. After a temporary suspension around the end of the war, it continued publication until September 1948. It is known as the first publication of Chūya Nakahara 's poem “Dōshūzan Yakyoku (『道修山夜曲』)”, but it is extremely rare, with no copies held by the National Diet Library or other university libraries in Japan. Alongside psychiatric commentary and patient recovery records, the postwar period featured a column where Kokyō answered inquiries from general readers. This collection includes all 58 surviving issues from January 1934 (the inaugural issue) through September 1948. Detailed tables of contents are provided, enabling smooth access to specific articles.

The 『療養日誌』 are diaries where patients at the Nakamura Kokyō Sanatorium recorded their daily tasks and reflections. Collected daily as part of their treatment, they were returned with comments added by Kokyō and others. These diaries not only reveal the actual practices of the sanatorium's unique therapeutic approach but also serve as extremely valuable historical documents illustrating the interactions between physicians and patients. It contains over 550 volumes covering approximately 500 individuals from October 1935 to August 1948. These records are integrated into the existing J-DAC “Social and Cultural History Database,” enabling cross-searching with other J-DAC database such as “Nihon Shinrei” (『日本心霊』).
